Skin Care Tips for Your Tough Guy

It’s no secret that the majority of men fail to properly take care of their skin. Whether it’s because they haven’t been thoroughly educated in skin care, they think it takes too long and isn’t necessary and their bar of soap does just fine “thank you very much”, or because the stigma related to skin care and beauty is that of a female practice, the truth is the average guy isn’t giving his skin the nourishment and care it needs to be its healthiest. Instead of overwhelming your man with a brand new 10-step morning and evening regimen, start him off with the essentials. The following three tips are for the busy, hard-working, man’s man to give his skin health, vibrance, and longevity, in less than 5 minutes per day!

CHOOSE HIS CLEANSER WISELY.

If we had a dollar for every man who tells us they use the drugstore Apricot Scrub or exfoliating beads each and every day, we wouldn’t need jobs. We get it, if it feels rough and gritty, it must be getting all the bad stuff out. But there is such a thing as over-exfoliating, over-cleansing, or simply just using the wrong products that clog pores and irritate your skin. Choose a cleanser that is non-comedogenic (that means it won’t clog your pores), and is alcohol free, so it doesn’t dry out your skin. And remember to limit your exfoliating cleanser or scrub to 3x per week MAX! You might be a tough guy, but your skin doesn’t have to be.

MOISTURIZE.

Moisturizers might seem like unnecessary fluff to most men, but realistically, they’re a quick and easy essential. They work by trapping water into the skin, which then helps to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles, rough patches, and maintain a bright and youthful appearance. Everyone should be using a moisturizer, but especially someone who shaves their face.

APPLY SUNSCREEN.

Seriously. Please. We beg of you. Whether or not he is prone to sunburn or has dark skin is not the point of sunscreen. While sunscreen does certainly aid in the prevention of sun burn, it also protects against other harsh effects from UVA/UVB rays, such as age spots, wrinkles, and cancer. Get your man an easy sunscreen he can apply before going outdoors to keep his skin and body healthy. (Helpful hint: don’t apply body sunscreen to your face! Make sure to use one specifically formulated for the skin on your face so that it doesn’t irritate or clog pores).
